OPERATION ORDER: FTX A02-26 - OIL REFINERY Assault

Troop-Level OPORD | Classification: UNCLASSIFIED // EXERCISE

TASK ORGANIZATION

Pararescue
ANVIL Troop (Assault)Main Effort — Assault & Secure Refinery
160th SOARInfil/Exfil, Air Assault Support
TACPClose Air Support Coordination, Terminal Control
SR OperatorsPre-assault Reconnaissance, Pattern of Life

1. SITUATION

a. Area of Operations

The AO encompasses the refinery complex at GRIDREF 019030 and its surrounding terrain. The refinery consists of multiple industrial structures, open storage yards, elevated walkways, and hardened processing buildings — presenting both CQB environments and open/linear danger areas during the approach.

b. Enemy Forces

  • Composition: Reinforced enemy security element defending the refinery
  • Disposition: Static defensive positions at entry points, roving patrols on perimeter, possible QRF element staged within 2 km
  • Enemy Capabilities: Small arms, potential crew-served weapons at key nodes, communications to call QRF, light armored motorized vehicles.
  • Enemy COA: Defend in place, consolidate on objective, call QRF upon compromise

c. Friendly Forces

  • Adjacent: Marine Relief-in-Place unit staged at RP BRAVO, ETA to objective post-seizure: TBD
  • Supporting: 24th STS and 160th SOAR

2. MISSION

ANVIL Troop conducts an air assault at GRIDREF 019030[OBJ Breakpoint] NLT 2100 to seize, clear, and secure the refinery complex, then transitions to defensive posture and conducts Relief-in-Place (RIP) with Marine unit in order to deny enemy use of the facility and maintain operational control of the AO.

3. EXECUTION

a. Commander's Intent

Purpose: Deny the enemy a critical logistics and production node while demonstrating Troop-level proficiency in air assault operations, CQB, movement techniques, and danger area crossing procedures.

Method: The Troop infils via 160th SOAR UH-60s to a secured LZ, moves to the objective utilizing proper LDA/ODA crossing procedures, breaches the refinery perimeter, conducts systematic CQB clearance of all structures, and establishes a defensive perimeter pending RIP with Marines.

End State(EXFIL): Refinery seized and cleared, all personnel accounted for, TACP has established LZs, SR team extracted or absorbed into perimeter, Marines relieved in place and assume control.

b. Scheme of Maneuver

PHASE 1 — INFIL

  • 160th SOAR lifts Troop from LZ ALPHA and conducts flight to LZ FALCON
  • LZ is pre-cleared by SR team no later than ANVIL step-off
  • Two chalk insertion; Chalk 1 (Assault Element), Chalk 2 (Support/HQ/TACP)
  • Upon touchdown, establish 360° security, conduct headcount, move off LZ immediately

PHASE 2 — MOVEMENT TO OBJECTIVE

  • Troop moves in patrol order from LZ FALCON toward GRIDREF 019030 [OBJ Breakpoint]
  • LDA Crossing: Troop utilizes proper bounding overwatch; point element identifies LDA, signals halt, far and near-side security established, element crosses by exception — one element at a time, 360° maintained, no bunching
  • ODA Crossing: Troop identifies open danger area; near-side security holds, far-side recon conducted, crossing executed at maximum dispersion and speed, covered and concealed positions established on far side before element moves
  • Movements conducted using modified wedge / file formations based on terrain

PHASE 3 — ACTIONS ON OBJECTIVE

  • Outer Cordon: Support element establishes outer cordon, blocks avenues of approach, TACP establishes comms with CAS assets
  • Breach: Assault element moves to breach point, initiates breach on signal
  • CQB Clearance: Sequential clearance of all refinery structures — pieing corners, dynamic entry on hardened rooms, proper stack discipline, communications between clearing teams
  • Consolidation: All structures cleared, personnel consolidated at OBJ BREAKPOINT, Defensive Posture set, accountability conducted, ACE report submitted up.

PHASE 4 — DEFENSE / HOLD

  • Troop establishes hasty defensive perimeter within refinery
  • TACP maintains CAS on-call for QRF threat
  • SR team (if not extracted) integrates into perimeter as early warning
  • Comms maintained with ODIN 1 for Marine unit RIP timing

PHASE 5 — RELIEF IN PLACE (RIP)

  • Marine unit links up at RP BRAVO
  • Marines assume position by position; Troop does not move until Marines are set
  • Once RIP complete, Troop consolidates at LZ DELTA for exfil

PHASE 6 — EXFIL

  • 160th SOAR extracts Troop from LZ DELTA
  • TACP provides final CAS picture
  • Accountability confirmed prior to lift-off

c. Tasks to Subordinate Elements

Element Task Purpose
SR TeamConduct recce of LZ FALCON and OBJ Breakpoint [019030], report NLT ANVIL Step-offEnable informed infil and assault planning
160th SOARInsert Recon Element, Lift Troop from LZ ALPHA to LZ FALCON; stage for exfil at LZ DELTA, Provide CAS.Enable air assault and extraction
24th STS TACPEstablish CAS comms, provide terminal control if QRF threatens OBJProtect force from QRF, enable fires
Assault ElementBreach and clear all refinery structures using CQB TTPsSeize and clear objective
Support ElementEstablish outer cordon, suppress avenues of approachIsolate objective, prevent enemy reinforcement
Troop HQCommand and control, maintain comms with all elements, coordinate RIPSynchronize all phases

d. Coordinating Instructions

  • H-Hour: TBD by exercise command
  • ROE: Positive ID required prior to engagement (EXERCISE ROE applies)
  • Formations during movement
  • LDA/ODA Procedure: near-side security, far-side recon, cross by exception, reassemble in covered position
  • Abort criteria: LZ not cleared, SR team goes COMMS-silent, compromise prior to breach
  • Challenge / Password: THUNDER / STORM
