Dive Basic — Basic Diver Level I

The Basic Diver course is Bronze Squadron's entry-level combat diving qualification and the mandatory foundation for all subsequent subsurface training. It certifies that an operator can safely enter the water, manage life support, navigate beneath the surface, and deliver themselves to an objective as a functioning member of a dive pair. The course exists to make waterborne infiltration a reliable insertion option for the assault teams rather than a specialist novelty — every Level I graduate is expected to conduct a briefed subsurface approach and arrive on target combat-effective. It is the prerequisite for Master Diver Level II and for any tasking that lists a dive infil.

Instruction progresses through the core competencies of the combat swimmer:

Dive Fundamentals — Baseline theory and safety governing all subsurface operations: air management and life-support discipline, depth and ascent awareness, recognition and response to common dive emergencies, and the hard limits that keep training and operations survivable.

Water Confidence and Swimmer Skills — Building the individual comfort and stamina the environment demands: surface and subsurface movement, equipment management in the water, and the composure to solve problems below the surface without breaking the dive.

Buddy Procedures — The dive pair as the fundamental unit: pre-dive checks, in-water signaling and contact-keeping, mutual monitoring, and the emergency actions a diver takes when their buddy has a problem. No operator dives alone.

Subsurface Navigation — Delivering the pair to a designated point: heading and distance keeping beneath the surface, maintaining orientation with degraded reference, and executing a controlled approach and surfacing at the correct point on the objective.

The course culminates in a combat infiltration dive in which the student pair conducts a briefed subsurface approach from an insertion point to a shore objective, navigates the route, and surfaces on target ready to transition to land operations. Graduates earn the Basic Diver qualification and are cleared to fill the dive-infil role in troop-level operations and to progress to Master Diver Level II.
